We sat down with Mehek Khanna from Pearson Ham Group who walks us through a typical day as a Senior Consultant.
How do you start your typical workday?
Before work commences, I like to start my day by going for a run or to the gym. Starting my mornings like this helps me clear my mind and boost my dopamine levels.
I travel into the office 2/3 days a week. Luckily, I live very close to the office so my journey on the tube takes less than 30 minutes.
I like to start my mornings early and aim to get into the office around 8/8:30AM. I tend to grab my breakfast on the way in. Recently, been enjoying a café called Blank Street that has just opened and I would highly recommend their Flat White to anyone who hasn’t tried it before!
What does a morning as a Senior Consultant look like for you?
I like to start my mornings by catching up on e-mails and planning key activities for the rest of the day. This helps me prioritise certain actions and discuss them with the team during our morning check-in (usually at 9/9.30 AM).
I also try to carve out some time in the mornings to either create (e.g., storylines for key deliverables) or review content created by team members.
In addition to our daily catch-ups, we also have specific problem-solving sessions with the entire project team in the mornings (twice a week) to help identify and address any challenges we are facing on the project.
All in all, my mornings are blocked with focus time and meetings to get things done.
How do you spend your lunchtimes when you go into the office?
I am not very adventurous when it comes to lunch, so I usually end up getting the same thing to eat on most day.
My usual lunch spots are either M&S or to the Berwick Street food market for a quick bite.
Every Thursday I end up eating the Halloumi wrap from EatActiv (thanks to the L&D team who organises the Lunch and Learn sessions!).
And how does your afternoon look, as a Senior Consultant?
In the afternoons, I have a short/ad-hoc check-in with my team members to discuss any updates, solve any outstanding issues, and review content.
A lot of my time is also spent on prepping for and attending client calls that typically happen later in the day as I am currently working for a US-based client.
In addition to project related work, I am also involved in a few internal initiatives (e.g., recruitment) which take up some of my time in the afternoons.
After your workday ends, how do you spend your evenings?
I like to wrap up my day by 7 PM, eat dinner and watch something on TV (currently following Roland Garros) before I go to sleep.
