Welcome to a day in the life with Brendon Liew.
How do you start your typical workday?
In my daily routine, I begin by taking a shower before starting work. Following this, I have breakfast, which I prepare the night before. A go-to option for me is protein oats, which is not only quick and easy but also a healthy choice. Once I finish breakfast, I proceed to get ready and make my way to Stockwell tube station. There, I catch the Victoria line that directly takes me to Oxford Circus. During my commute, I often listen to a podcast that focuses on current NBA news.
What does a morning at work look like for you?
In my work routine, I adopt a hybrid approach, dividing my time between remote work and office work. When I do go to the office, I usually arrive between 8:30 and 9:00 am. During this time, I have the opportunity to connect with colleagues and enjoy a cup of coffee together before we begin our day.
Once I start working, I follow a consistent set of actions. This typically involves starting by checking and responding to emails, followed by prioritizing tasks on my to-do list. Additionally, I allocate sufficient time to prepare for any upcoming meetings scheduled throughout the day. At around 10:30am, I participate in a daily catch-up session where my role involves ensuring that team members are aligned on task priorities and addressing any potential obstacles that may arise.
How do you typically spend your lunchtimes when you go into the office?
For lunch, I have different options depending on the day. If the weather is nice, I like to take a walk with my colleagues in Soho and explore the diverse range of food choices available there. Soho offers a fantastic variety of cuisines from around the world, and I highly recommend trying it out. On other days, I bring my own packed lunch, often opting for Asian dishes.
And how does your afternoon look?
During the middle of the week, we have Lunch & Learn sessions where we get the chance to learn something new while enjoying our meal. These sessions involve presentations on various topics related to different areas of our business. It’s a great opportunity for professional development and expanding our knowledge in a relaxed setting.
My afternoons at Pearson Ham Group encompass a wide range of activities, from analysing extensive datasets to engaging in marketing initiatives. I find this diversity to be highly enjoyable as it keeps my work interesting. I am fortunate to have access to a broad array of technical programs, allowing me to utilize various tools for data analysis. Additionally, I have the opportunity to engage in qualitative work, which adds another layer of variety to my responsibilities. This balance between technical and qualitative tasks makes my work fulfilling and engaging.
What does the end of your day look like?
After completing my workday, I usually head straight to the gym as it has always been my preferred method of destressing. Following my workout, I often search for new recipes to expand my digital recipe collection. Once dinner is prepared, I have a couple of hours to unwind, during which I typically watch sports highlights on YouTube. It’s a relaxing way for me to end the day and stay connected with the world of sports.
